Reasons why business Chinese is attracting attention now

日中ビジネス国旗小目_m.png

Become a human resource sought after by the Chinese market!

Today, China has undergone a major transformation from the former "world's factory" to "the world's largest business market" and continues to grow.
Whether you are working as an overseas expatriate or a dispatched employee for a Japanese company, or a local hire for a Chinese company, or a highly specialized engineer, salesperson, chef, consultant, or any other type of occupation, it is important to learn Chinese. It is very useful in China, and such Japanese people are strongly sought after.
In addition, HSK is a qualification officially recognized by the Chinese government, so it is an evaluation standard that can be used for employment and business, and it is also an additional point for work visas (A, B, C ranks), so it is also effective to aim for a higher visa rank.

Local communication builds trust.

It is extremely important to build interpersonal relationships without being afraid of the external environment, such as the different Chinese business culture, social conventions, and anti-Japanese sentiment that can be seen in some parts of the world. By understanding the local situation and acquiring language skills, a good relationship of trust will be created through conversation.

It can be a big advantage in the business world.

The current situation is that the percentage of Japanese who can actually speak Chinese among Japanese and Chinese companies working in both China and Japan is very small. Being able to speak Chinese in any business is a big advantage, and it will be a big advantage because it will be in a much more advantageous position.

Common trouble cases in daytime business

1. "It's okay" is not okay! ?

The word "mei wen tea" often used by Chinese business people. It means "No problem. It's fine." It seems that there are many. This is a common problem in general, from delivery deadlines to quality problems.

One of the causes of trouble is "difference in sense of standard". There are differences in the timing and severity of problems that are recognized as problems.
Another reason is "objective social circumstances". In many cases, it is not the responsibility of the person in charge, but the fact that there is a background that does not keep time and quality as strictly as in Japan.

For example, the impact of social transport functions, raw material quality, individual worker management, and rising labor costs.

To prevent problems,

(1) Active communication from the Japanese side, such as confirmation of progress and quality.

(2) Flexibility according to the social situation in China.

2. Company e-mail and personal Wechat, friends over titles

"I sent an e-mail, but I haven't received a reply for a long time!"
In Japan, it is normal for business to formally communicate via company e-mail, and there are formal business rules.
On the other hand, in China, work at the company is not done by company e-mail, but by personal Wechat (like LINE), and is concisely done with a word "OK" or a voice message.
The reason for this is that there are many days when I cannot check my e-mail at work because I am on the road a lot. It may be necessary for the Japanese side to consider adapting to the way of communication that suits the local area.

3. Speed is the key

The Chinese side wants to express their intentions as soon as possible, but in many cases the Japanese side cannot give an immediate answer on the spot.
On the Japanese side, it takes time to make decisions such as reports, communications, consultations, meetings, and board meetings.

The current situation is that we miss the timing while waiting for an endless amount of time, and the business negotiations cannot be concluded.

The Chinese side sees it as an inefficient organization that does not take it seriously, and they go to other options.
When doing business with Chinese people, it is important to assign someone with decision-making power to the person in charge, or to give a certain amount of decision-making power to the field staff.

4. Don't apologize too much

There are many cases where Chinese business partners make mistakes, but they do not apologize, make excuses, and push through without apologizing.

In this case, it depends on the relationship with the business partner, but generally there is no choice but to accept it.

Because in China, an apology is a serious act.

The important way of thinking is to point out the facts rather than force an apology.

By pointing out why, where, and how you went wrong, you can defuse the request without an apology.

5. Price negotiation is a matter of course!

still bargain. And at half price? ! And the Japanese person in charge is annoyed, a surprising trouble.
In China, not bargaining is considered incompetent, and in both daily life and business, it is normal to bargain at half the price or to continue to bargain.
From the beginning, it is necessary to carefully prepare for how to set a higher selling price and how to negotiate so that you can respond flexibly to price negotiations.
