The reason why the Chinese proficiency test is attracting attention now

会社でのミーティング

High demand for Japanese-Chinese and Chinese-Japanese interpretation and translation

In recent years, with the growth of China, the demand for Chinese interpreters and translators has increased rapidly. Also, until now, technology was mainly provided from Japan to China, so many translations were "from Japanese to Chinese", and most of the translators were Chinese. However, as China has grown and gained a strong international influence, it is expected that there will be more "Chinese to Japanese" in the future, and the demand for Japanese translators will also increase. The Chinese Language Proficiency Test tests not only Chinese reading and listening comprehension skills, but also Japanese translation skills, so it is suitable for an environment where both Japanese and Chinese are used.

Chinese companies expanding globally

Chinese companies are expanding globally by acquiring companies from other countries and expanding overseas. The Chinese government is trying to accelerate trade by backing up companies and setting up the "One Belt, One Road" concept that connects Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia, etc.
It can be said that Chinese is one of the qualifications that will be an advantage in finding a job.

中国のビジネス街

China from "World's Factory" to "World's Largest Business Market"

For about 20 years since the 1990s, China has experienced rapid growth, transforming from "the world's factory" to "the world's largest business market."
Since 2012, China's economic growth has stabilized, but until then, the mainstream business in China was that foreign companies, including Japanese companies, hired many people at low labor costs and produced many products at low cost.
However, China is now the world's largest market due to increased consumption. Aiming for a share in the Chinese market, companies from all over the world are fighting fiercely.

Tips for passing the Chinese proficiency test

1. Exactly! pinyin

Compared to other Chinese exams, the intermediate exam requires more accurate pinyin (phonetic Roman letters). There are multiple-choice written questions that are not included in other exams, such as "correct pinyin notation", "combination of tones", and "convert kanji to pinyin/pinyin to kanji".
As a tip for passing the exam, whether you are an introductory student or have stumbled at the beginner or intermediate level, you can accurately master how to read and spell pinyin, distinguish between the four tones, set pinyin and kanji, and combine the tones of words. is to do!
And when listening and shadowing, check both pinyin and Chinese characters to enhance the synergy between writing and listening.

2. Train! translation skills

In the intermediate examination, in addition to mutual reading and listening comprehension of Japanese and Chinese, translation ability is also tested.

In contrast to the 4-choice mark type, which is mainly related to tourism, the Interpreter Guide Examination is not required in the HSK, the Chuken has a Japanese translation and a Chinese translation.
The key to passing the exam is to be conscious of and train your translation skills!

When solving the past question of "translate Japanese to Chinese", which is considered to be a difficult question, you will compare your own translation with the answer.

So the important thing is not to just fix it to the correct one, but to find out what went wrong and what you should study more! Whether the cause is vocabulary, understanding of grammar, or individual parts of speech such as adverbs and conjunctions... Let's try to strengthen those weak points.
Even in your daily life, get into the habit of translating in your head, asking, "What would you say in Chinese at this time?"

3. Repeat! past questions

The key to passing the exam is to solve the 3 past exam questions in one book over and over again in a short period of time!

Rather than spending time on a single word or grammar, writing a single word or grammar in a vocabulary notebook, looking it up in a dictionary, or memorizing related example sentences, just watch and read and move on. Pay attention to how many times you come across the same words and grammar in a short period of time, and improve your learning efficiency.
Solve the first lap while looking at the answers, and you don't have to memorize them. On the second lap, I don't worry about the details and difficult parts, and I keep moving forward. From around the third round, you can see the whole picture, and the minimum necessary words and grammar are suppressed to some extent. As you repeat the 4th and 5th weeks, you will gradually see your weak points, so you will focus on strengthening only your weak points.

合格のコツ

Characteristics of the Chinese Language Proficiency Course

Thorough pronunciation instruction

The Chinese test requires pinyin accuracy more than other Chinese tests.

To prepare for exams, Ms. Xie will thoroughly check your pronunciation every time in her mid-term exam lesson, and will thoroughly guide you on pronunciation that you are not good at, vague and unconfident pronunciation, etc.

Not only "Please imitate native pronunciation",I will explain in Japanese how to move the mouth, lips, tongue, throat, etc. in an easy-to-understand manner.

Secondly, there are two and three tones that Japanese people tend to confuse, the crooked tongue, front nasal, and e, which are difficult to pronounce, h and f, cu and qu, which are easy to confuse.Etc., show specific examples and carefully guide while comparing. The synergistic effect with listening and writing of input learning that can be done by one person will also increase dramatically.

not only pronunciationlocalizationI will teach you to be able to do it.

Localization refers to changing the method of communication according to the culture and customs of the other party. Words that are taken for granted in Japan may have different meanings in China.

A funny story that resulted in misunderstanding

① A Japanese man was traveling in China and just said to a Chinese woman in Chinese, “I would like to ask you a question…”, but suddenly I was slapped! why? Because my tone was wrong!
The words that Japanese men want to say are "I would like to ask you a question..."
The words that the Chinese woman heard were "A little kiss?!" !
The Chinese pronunciation of "ask" and "kiss" are similar, but the tones are different.
"Ask" is "请(qǐng)问(wèn)" → a combination of 3 and 4 voices.
"Kiss" is "亲 (qīn) キ (wěn)" → 1 voice and 3 voices.

(2) A Japanese person ordered sausage in Chinese at an izakaya in China, but was served soup! why? Because I made a mistake with the rolling tongue!
The pronunciation of "sausage" and "soup" are similar, but the tongue rolls and does not roll, the difference between two and one sounds
"Sausage" is pronounced as "xiāng 肠 (cháng)" → 肠 (cháng) → rolled tongue, two voices.
"Soup" is pronounced as "xiāng 汤 (tāng)" → 汤 (tāng) → without rolling the tongue, one voice.

Drastic translation guidance

Compared to other exams, the Intermediate Examination tests your translation skills the most. The guide interpreter exam, which is not asked in the HSK, mainly focuses on tourism-related questions, and has a 4-choice mark format, whereas the mid-term exam has a written format of Japanese and Chinese translations.

As a preparation for the exam, drastically study guidance that is conscious of translation ability! For example, when correcting a translation, rather than ending with the correct correction, we provide explanations of why the correction was wrong and advice on what to improve. I will guide you to

especiallyThe writing problem of "translating from Japanese to Chinese", which is said to be the most difficult in the mid-term examConcerning, we will provide you with fundamental translation guidance so that you can essentially improve your translation skills, such as word order, adverbs/conjunctions, distinction between words and grammatical expressions, etc., so that you can pass the midterm exam.

Easy-to-understand explanation of past questions

I often hear people say that they tried solving past prosecution questions, but they still don't understand why they got it wrong, even after reading the explanations and looking up the dictionary, or that they still got it wrong with similar questions.

Teacher Hsieh's Chuken lesson will solve your doubts, difficult questions, and weak points.

For example, regarding difficult questions such as "phrase order" and "correct sentence judgment" in middle translation, we not only explain the rules of "the grammar is decided like this", but also give a lot of concrete examples and compare them. I will explain it clearly so that you can understand it.

The difference between "Chuken" and "HSK"

"Chuken" and "HSK" are the same Chinese proficiency test, but they have different characteristics.
The "Intermediate Examination" tests Chinese reading and listening comprehension skills, as well as Japanese-Chinese and Chinese-Japanese translation skills.
The "HSK" requires you to answer Chinese questions in Chinese, and only tests your ability to use Chinese, not your ability to translate.
Therefore, it can be said that the Chuken is suitable for those who aim to be active in Japanese companies, and the HSK is suitable for those who aim to study at a Chinese university or work at a Chinese company.

"Intermediate exam" / "HSK" comparison table

hskと中検の比較表

*Strict comparison is not possible because the objectives and question formats of the exams are different.

To put it simply, HSK is a global qualification that is carried out all over the world, and the content is assumed to be more practical communication, but the Chinese test is more accurate. Japanese-Chinese and Chinese-Japanese translation skills are required.
